Mesotrione: p-Hydroxyphenyl pyruvate dioxygenase inhibitor, which ultimately affects carotenoid biosynthesis. Selectivity in maize derives from differential metabolism (to the 4-hydroxy derivative) and also possibly from slower foliar uptake.

Usage
|
Mesotrione: Under development for pre- (at 100-225 g/ha) and post- (at 70-150 g/ha) emergence control of broad-leaved weeds, such as Xanthium
strumarium, Ambrosia trifida, Abutilon theophrasti, and Chenopodium, Amaranthus and Polygonum spp., and some grass weeds, in maize.
Atrazine Mainly absorbed by roots, with little absorption by stems and leaves, it quickly transmits to plant meristem and leaves, interfering with photosynthesis and causing weeds to die. In resistant crops such as corn, non-toxic substances are generated by the decomposition of corn ketone enzymes, making them safe for crops.Suitable for controlling annual and biennial broad-leaved weeds and monocotyledonous weeds in corn, sorghum, forest land, grassland, sugarcane, etc.
